The insoles that come with your shoe, called standard insoles, serve only as a finishing touch to the shoe and do not promote any kind of correction, only comfort. Even the footwear which promises to be for specific types of feet is produced in a very general way, not respecting the individuality of each Foot and each alteration, that is, it may even worsen your case, since it was not made specifically for your Foot. In turn, plantar orthoses, commonly known as personalised insoles, are made through a biomechanical and baropodometric assessment, in a customised way and adapted to each clinical situation, after the diagnosis of individual needs.
Drª Cristina Costa, podiatrist at FootStudy listed some of the main benefits that customised insoles have:
1. Increase in Plantar Support Surface;
2. Stimulation of venous return;
3. Increase of proprioceptivity;
4. Relief of discomfort caused by excessive pressure or poorly distributed loads;
5. Correction of postural alterations;
6. Relief of lumbar overloads;
7. Alignment of the main postural regulation centres;
8. Increase of the feeling of comfort and well being;
9. Increase in sports performance.
Personalised plantar supports can also be applied in a preventive way, for people who do not have problems with their Feet, avoiding possible injuries and/or for their own comfort.
